Friday was a very sad day for the Marist Community on hearing the news of Br Laurence’s passing. Many of you might know Br Laurence as the gentle man who quietly and humbly continued his work as a Marist Brother here at St Joseph’s Marist College. As a previous Head of the College and teacher, he spent many years serving at St Joseph’s. He was a great supporter of the SNU and played an instrumental role in the opening of the Unit in the year 2000. He served on the SNU parent committee for many years and represented the interests and concerns of our parents at the Governing Body level. His love was authentic for all the learners and we will always be grateful for his big heart. Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord. And let the perpetual light shine upon him. And may the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen In honour of Br Laurence we would like to place cut flowers in front of his house on the SJMC property. The students have made cards at school which will be attached to the flowers before they are delivered. We will be collecting all flower donations tomorrow and Wednesday. Forever in our thoughts and hearts. In September each year, volunteers around the world take part in the world’s biggest coastal cleanup, known as International Coastal Cleanup Day. The event has been held internationally each year for over 20 years, when people head to the beaches and begin removing rubbish from the shorelines.
This year learners and their families in the SNU went to Sunrise Beach to participate in this wonderful event. A huge thanks to Believe in Schatzi for the invitation. We hope to see more of our families joining us next year. I’m sure your tummy muscles are still aching from last night’s show. Alan Committie was hilarious as usual but what made last night’s show so outstanding was the support received from parents, friends and families. A sincere thanks to all those who bought tickets and promoted the show. It was a full house. A warm thanks to Chantale for the effort and time given in organising this event. Thank you to all the learners and their families for their support on Saturday. Congratulations to The Braai Masters (the Surgison family) on their second place prize. A big thank you also to Chantale and her family who had a pot going for the second year running! Our SNU Marimba band made us proud with their entertaining performance.
Today we went to the Lakeside Fire Station, and the firefighters there were awesome! We were treated to an educational talk about fires, the learners got to hold and use a fire hose and we all got to ride in the fire engine!
